PLANT PARENTHOOD: TIPS AND TRICKS FOR PLANT PARENTS

Hello, plant parent!

We from Purple & Pure, know that being a parent to the green world comes with its own roles and responsibilities to nurture and caring for outdoor and indoor plants. It is definitely a rewarding experience that allows you to connect with nature and create a green and inviting space in your home.

As a plant parent, you'll get to choose from a wide variety of plants, each with its unique requirements and characteristics. Some plants are low-maintenance and perfect for beginners, while others may require more attention and care. But fear not, with a little knowledge and patience, you can create a thriving plant collection.

Purple & Pure has created an essential list of tips to get you started on your journey!

  1. CHOOSE THE RIGHT PLANTS:

Like any relationship, always begin your journey with the easier plants that can tolerate a different range of conditions. This is important specially to love and get a hang of what you’re doing.

  1. USE ICE CUBES TO WATER:

Yes, you read that right! If you are prone to overwatering your plants, or not sure of how much water to pour, then this *cool* trick is the way to go.  Ice cubes deliver a slow and steady trickle of water to the soil as they melt, thus preventing the plant and soil getting waterlogged. Since they are conveniently pre-measured you are sure to be adding the same quantity of water to your plant.

  1. GET FREE HOUSEPLANTS FROM FOOD SCRAPS:

The best way to increase your plant collection without spending money is to make use of your food scraps. You can grow new plants from various sources in your own kitchen. A lot of herbs, fruits and even veggies can be given new life from scrap that we usually discard in the bin. It is easier to start with using the roots of coriander, seeds of lemon and also a really cool tropical houseplant by rooting the top of a pineapple.

  1. CREATE HUMIDITY WITH A SAUCER OF WATER:

Using a saucer of water is a simple and effective way to create humidity for your plants, especially if you live in a dry climate or have indoor plants that require higher moisture levels. As water from the saucer evaporates, it increases the humidity level around the plant. This is important for many indoor plants, especially tropical ones. For even better humidity, you can group together several plants together. As they release moisture through transpiration, the humidity will increase collectively, helping them to thrive better.

  1. PRUNING AND PROPAGATION: Don’t forget to regularly trim your plants for healthy growth. Remove all dead and dry leaves, including the yellow ones. Propagating your plants also allows you to create new ones to add to your home, thereby making it greener and expanding your awesome collection.

Plant parenting is not just about the result; it's also about enjoying the process. Witnessing your plants grow and flourish is incredibly fulfilling and brings a sense of tranquillity to your living space and joy to yourself.
